London, England

The British Museum is situated in Bloomsbury. This national treasure houses a priceless collection of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian antiquities. Included in the collections are the Elgin Marbles, the Rosetta Stone, and a copy of the Magna Carta.

The Houses of Parliament are built on the site of the old Palace of Westminster, the Palace's most famous feature is Big Ben, the world's largest timepiece, which is housed in St. Stephen's Tower.

Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are two vast public parks which cover a large portion of central London from Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park to Kensington Palace. The two are separated by the Serpentine lake, used both by swimmers and boaters.

St Paul's Cathedral was rebuilt by Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of 1666. Its dome and the Whispering Gallery are among its fine architectural features. This is the site of many notable state occasions, including Winston Churchill's funeral and the marriage of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Tower of London is London's most famous landmark, the Tower houses the Crown Jewels in the Jewel House, the former prison of Sir Walter Raleigh called Bloody Tower, and White Tower, with its Chapel of St John and the Royal Armories.

Trafalgar Square is considered to be the center of London. A statue of Lord Nelson stands atop a column guarded by lions in the middle of this famous square.

National Gallery in Trafalgar Square offers prominent works of art such as da Vinci, Rembrandt, Raphael, and Veemer.

Victoria and Albert Museum houses a wonderful collection of fine and applied arts from around the world including the Raphael Cartoon Court.

Westminster Abby is the coronation site of English kings and queens since William the Conqueror, many of whom are buried here, including the Queen Mom. Inside the Coronation Chair, the tomb of the Unknown Warrior, and the Poets Corner are of particular note.

Don't forget about London's famous shopping districts like Bond Street, Oxford Street and Regent's Street. London also has some of the most famous theaters in the world. Discounted tickets can be found at Leicester's Square. Pub fare is popular at lunchtime and is both filling and reasonable, although the names of the dishes are often confusing. Biscuits in England are what Americans call cookies. Chips in England are French Fries to Americans. If an American wants chips you ask for them by brand name.

Antigua

Saint John's is the capital and port cityof Antigua. The major attractions are The Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, St John's Cathedral, Redcliffe Quay- a waterfront marketplace with upscale shops just south of Heritage Quay a multimillion-dollar entertainment complex.

English Harbour, one of the most famous attractions on Antigua, lies on the coast just south of Falmouth. Nelson's Dockyard compares to Colonial Williamsburg. Admiral House is a museum of Nautical memorabilia. Clarence House sits on a hill overlooking the dockyard. Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon spent their honeymoon here and Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip have dined here. When the house is not in use the caretakers give a fascinating tour of the place.

Across the main mountain range through a rain forest rich in pineapples, mangoes, and banana trees leads visitors to Curtain Bluff, where the sight of the Atlantic meeting the Caribbean results in magical color contrasts in the water.

In the southwest the megaliths of Green Castle Hill are reached by a long arduous climb. They were either set up by humans for the worship of the sun and moon or are nothing more than unusual geological formations.

There are 365 white sand beaches, the most popular being Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay, where many of the finest hotels are located. The irregular coastline is marked by inlets, coves, and natural harbors which attract scuba divers and snorkelers to more than 60 shipwreaks offshore that create a unique underwater environment.
